INFAMOUS MOVIE MOMS

AS WE CELEBRATE THIS MOTHER'S DAY, WE WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE TIME AND GO DOWN MEMORY LANE TO COMMEMARATE THE MOST INFAMOUS OF MOM ROLES PLAYED ON THE BIG SCREEN!!!!!!

BABY MOMMA

Who can forget the hilarious comedy movie released in April of 2008!!!  Stereotypical movie title but showcased the comical side to having a surrogate mother as funny as actress Amy Poehler who pretends to be pregnant for actress Tina Fey!!  All in all both when by the end of the movie ended up with their own families and each other!!

SOUL FOOD

One of the most family orientated all African American cast movie is Soul Food released in 1997.  This movie was a realistic depiction of what families go through good and bad and a perfect example for Mother Day in that the one thing that held the family together was "Big Momma".

STEP MOM

We have mothers, grandmothers, and then there is STEPMOM!  This movie released Christmas of 1998 put to rest the stereotype that stepmothers were evil.  Instead this movie showed Julia Roberts who played the stepmother as she learns to fit in with her husbands children and ex wife as they are soon to be wed and Susan Sarandon who played the mom who is faced with a life threatening disease and her husbands new fiancé!  Though sounding like a difficult situation both woman handled the task tearfully yet joyfully.

 THE BLIND SIDE

This movie released in 2009 and also based on a true story shed light on the character of what a mother is.  Mothers are not necessarily, in every situation, the person who gave birth to you.  A lot of times its the woman who took that role in caring and raising you.  This movie showcased this to PERFECTION, you hear me.  It follows Sandra Bullock as a mom of two who takes in a homeless high school boy.  She took this boy into her home and heart and showed the world what the true definition of a mother is!

CROOKLYN

If you want to know what life is like being raised in an African American household back in the 1970's this is your hit!!  This classic Spike Lee film shows the ups and downs of a family (Alfre Woodard who plays the mother along with her husband played by Delroy Lindo and their four children) living in BedStuy Brooklyn, New York.  Alfre Woodard works a 9-5, cooks and cleans for and behind four children, while dealing with the stresses of every day life.  This movie shows the strength of a mom in what she does and sacrifices for her family.

ERIN BROCKOVICH

Julia Robert couldn't have done a better job at this one released March 14, 2000!  Showing the sacrifices that mothers make to provide for their children Julia plays an employee for a law firm that is trying to provide evidence and prove that local plant is contaminating the water supply which is causing sickness and fatality in the town which she resides.  While she faces many hardships with working this case she remains strong in being mom to her children and a great aide to her community.

ENOUGH

Released May,24,2002 Jennifer Lopez plays a woman who flees from a domestic violent relationship in order to live a normal life as a single parent with her daughter.  As she is on the run from a man who seems to find her everywhere she goes she eventually builds the strength to stop running and face the issue at hand.  This role depicted how strong and protective a mother is especially when it comes to her child or children.

THE HELP

This movie represents a mother in two different point of views.  Having been released August 9, 2011 this movie depicts the lives and realities of African American a little before and during the civil rights movement in the south.  You have two mother roles in this movie where Octavia Spencer, Mrs Minny,  plays mom to her own children at home while having to wait on hand and foot for someone else and their family.  She deals with hardships at home while dealing with the difficulties of society.  On the other hand this movie represents "the mother" in a way where Viola Davis, the actress who plays Aibileen, plays a maid to a family also.  While have lost her own only child she has cared for others children for long periods of times and for so many years thus being their secondary or in some cases primary care giver.

 HAVE A HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!!!!!!!!

TOP 6 THINGS YOU SHOULDNT LIE ABOUT COMING INTO A RELATIONSHIP!!

“Things come apart so easily when they have been held together with lies.”

-Dorothy Allison

When meeting someone new it is such a *takes a deep breath* *smells the roses*  fresh feeling.  The excitement and anticipation of getting to know that person becomes like a scavenger hunt.  You have long drawn out phone conversations about "Where they like to eat and what cuisine is their favorite"  "What they like to do for fun and what their interests are".  You yearn to know what each other are like on other levels, intimately and longevity. You go on multiple dates to spend quality time together and have a feel of what it's like being in that persons company.

Though I've painted the perfect picture of what coming into a new relationship feels like, I have to remind you that you never really know a person until you know a person.  When dating someone new both parties tend to want to make a great impression as to catch the eye of the other.  You both want to dress like a million dollars to show off your impeccable taste.  Wine and Dine at fancy venues to show off your quality in going out.  Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with wanting to make an distinctive mark to leave the other party WOOED!!!!  However this brings me to the subject in hand which is though you want to gain the love, admiration, crush, feelings etc of the other party, under no circumstance do you want to make any of the things you say about yourself, any thing that you may mislead turn into LIES!!!!  Particularly there are six to be exact that you definitely Do Not want to LIE about......

WHATS YOUR NUMBER??

Ever seen the movie???  Well this is numeral number one we feel shouldn't be discussed period when coming into a new relationship.  Numbers are in reference to "how many partners you've had".  This is something that both parties should keep to themselves.  This should never be brought up in general conversation because at the end of the day it holds NO RELEVANCE!!!!  What does that matter when the only thing that should is each other.

AGE

Aaliyah might've said "Age aint nothing but a number" but truth be told and with the way the laws are set up this is not something to play games with.

CHILDREN

If you have children in meeting someone who doesn't, never lie about yours!!  First meetings and getting to know someone is not necessarily telling everything, but telling the key points of your life which does involve the answer to the question "Do you have children".  No woman wants to date prince charming only to find out months down the road that he has a shit load of children and vice versa!

LIVING ARRANGEMENTS

This one is key!!!!!  Like we discussed in the introduction to this post, we know each party wants to make their best impression.........however this does not mean that you claim to live in a penthouse in the city when in actuality you live at home with your mama!!!

MARRIAGE GOALS

In this day and age you never know what your getting into with someone.  While one party may dream of a marriage with the house and kids to fill it, the other party could be thinking if only for one night thoughts.  Hhhhmmmm....this is why when meeting someone new and throughout the long conversations over dinner or such you should definitely discuss out in the open what your marriage goals are and if marriage is something you want at ALL!!!!!

EX FACTOR

Last but definitely not the least is the Ex factor, factor!!!!  Everyone has a past and we can all understand that but under no circumstance should that ex become apart of what you are trying to build new!!!  This means no one is going to tolerate the ex who is stalking you while out on a date.  Calling at all crazy times of the day!!! Please check your ex's out once out of your life, Thank You!!!

Autism Awareness

I want to support others with Autism, and help create a world where, as a friend of mine would say, normal is just a setting on a wash machine- Kate Goldfield.

There was this kid when I was younger in my class. He was very to his self and very quiet. Never made eye contact, never talked much to anyone and was..... well different. I took as he was just shy and didn't pay him much attention while there were some who played off his lonesome characteristics making fun of him every chance they could. When we graduated I never saw again. It wasn't until I got older that I learned about autism through a friend whose sibling suffered from it and realized that might have been what was going on with that young boy in my class. April is not just the month of Spring showers making way for May flowers. Its not just testing for students and vacation planning for the Summer. It Autism Awareness Month. 1stClassLadies are here to give you the information you need to know about autism.

Lets start with what Autism is. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental disability caused by a brain abnormality. It is believed by experts that ASD presents itself during the first three years of a person's life. A person with ASD typically has difficulty with social and communication skills. ASD is a wide-spectrum disorder which means that no two people with autism will have exactly the same symptoms. Though there is no known single cause for autism, it is generally accepted that it is caused by abnormalities in brain structure or function. Brain scans show differences in the shape as well as structure of the brain in children with autism compared to neuro-typical children. Studies are being done to investigate certain theories about ASD, such as the link between heredity, genetics and medical problems. In many families, there seems to be a pattern of autism or related disabilities, further supporting a genetic basis to the disorder. While no one gene has been identified as causing autism, researchers are searching for irregular segments of genetic code that children with autism may have inherited.

What does Autism do to ones social life? The way in which a person with an ASD interacts with another individual is quite different compared to how the rest of the population behaves. If the symptoms are not severe, the person with ASD may seem socially clumsy, sometimes offensive in his/her comments, or out of synch with others in his/her company. If the symptoms are more severe, the person may seem not to be interested in other people at all. When it comes to physical contact some  children with an ASD do not like cuddling or being touched like other children do. This is not true for all children with autism. Many will hug a relative (usually immediate family) and enjoy it greatly. This is usually just a question of practice and anticipating that physical contact is going to happen. A change in pattern or routine as well as doing something in the moment may cause a different reaction from a child with autism compared to one without. This also applies to sudden loud noises, change in smell or and/or lighting. Speech for one with ASD maybe little to no speaking at all. They may tend to repeat thing they hear (echolalia) and for some teens they tone may sound flat causing them to sound like "little professors." Empathy for people with autism never comes naturally and they have a hard time understanding other people feelings. If they are reminded  however, the ability  to take other people's feelings into account improves in time remarkably. Learning for one with autism is different for each. They may learn some things fast like how to read long words only to completely forget them later. They may also learn how to do things the hard way rather then easy way first.

Autism is a disorder but it is NOT  the end. Children still grow to love, to learn, to live. They eat and breathe  the same as the rest f us and though the way they may have to do things in order to co exist with us may be different they are  still ONE OF US! "Jamaica here in New York"
-Trina 1stclassladies

Who said you had to travel the world to experience the delicacies of the world????  Who ever that might be, must not be from New York!  Here in New York we don't have to move an inch because the best chefs from all over are right here, delighting us hardcore Foodies.
Have opened 10 years ago is Manhattans Greenwich Village "Negril Village" located at 70 West 3rd St.  This venue is set up in an area of the city that is frequented a lot during late night and weekend hours.  Not only is New York's prestigious college NYU right across the street but also a large
number of boutiques and stores, lounges, and plenty sights.  However no need for other activities where this venue has two levels to keep you occupied with all the entertainment you need!
When entering Negril Village you are greeted with the sounds of pure Reggae, Calypso, and other rhythms helping greatly to create this atmosphere that you will completely almost forget that your in a restaurant and more like your on an island.  The décor on the top level reflects its roots of natural tones and furnishings.  Dining tables, booths, and also a bar.  Speaking of the bar,  we absolutely delighted that when
you take your seat at the bar, instead of having to hang our jackets coats or bags around our seat, they have these hooks implanted right under the bar top where you can hang your things and be comfortable!!!  It really is the little things sometimes that counts the most.  When you visit the lower level, it is another ambiance with electric blue lighting everywhere and a live DJ!!!!  Mainly used for events they host and night life hours!!

With such inviting scenery the food meets its expectations just as well.  Negril specializes in "Nu Caribbean" cuisine which features the likes of Curry seafood, chicken, and vegetables, Salt fish, Rasta Pasta, Rice and Peas, Red Snapper, Oxtail, Stew Chicken, Escoveitch Snapper, Ackee Tostones, Fresh baked corn bread, Salmon Crab cakes, Steamed Okra, THE BEST EVER COD FISH CAKES, THE BEST EVER BAKED MAC & CHEESE, and plenty more!!!
