Thoughts For Thursday

DRINKING AND DRIVING; THERE ARE STUPIDER THINGS, BUT IT’S A VERY SHORT LIST.
                                                                                                -unknown

10,839.  Repeat this number with us again…..10,839.  This isn’t the amount of new job opportunities for those seeking employment, nor is it the amount of new housing being built for families in need of a secure home.  10,839 sad to say is actually the amount, recorded in the year 2009, of people who were killed as a result of drunk driving.  It is a known fact that everyday someone loses their life.  It is a harsh reality for someone’s life to be taken away from them due to one’s irresponsibility in the decision to drink and drive.

On Sept 11, 2011 a son was taken from his parents, a brother was taken from his sibling, a significant other, grandson, nephew, cousin, partner, friend PO Kevin Jessup.  Kevin Jessup was a 25 year old PO assigned to the 106th precinct in Ozone Park, Queens. When almost returning home, from out celebrating his girlfriend’s birthday Sept 11, 2011, a drunk driver by the name of Jonathan Lopez slammed his 100 miles per hour vehicle into the back of Jessup’s, which hit another vehicle.  After the initial impact Jessup’s vehicle hit a guardrail, flipped over, and rolled into the deep woods along the Southern State Parkway exit 30.  Thus leaving the car out of view for motorist to even know there was a state of emergency.  Jessup’s girlfriend Crystal who was riding in the passenger seat climbed out of the window, through the debris, and onto the highway to try and flag down someone for help.  Her prays were answered when a bystander was able to call 911.  Once 911 arrived to the scene it took an estimated thirty minutes for emergency staff to locate Jessup’s body for rescue.  He was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center where Jessup was later pronounced dead.
Prosecutors say 20 year old Jonathan Lopez not only refused a breathalyzer test but officers also found marijuana and a glass pipe in his vehicle.  Lopez was arrested and is currently charged with second degree vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, third degree assault, and speeding.

PO Kevin Jessup was a young man who lived day to day working to help others, to protect and serve.  He will never be forgotten by his loved ones, friends, and brothers & sisters in blue.  A life taken in a tragic accident as a result of ignorance and stupidity choosing to drink and get behind the wheel.  Not only endangering yourself but also those who might be in the car with you or in another vehicle.  Once a life is over it cannot be brought back.  The results and consequences of drunk driving is NOT WORTH ANYTHING, DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!!!!

Tasteful Tuesday

"A good meal ought to begin with hunger"
                         - French Proverb

SOFRITO

Our quote couldn't state it better!!! Though "A good meal ought to start with hunger",  here at NY city's trendy eatery Sofrito, they are guaranteed to satisfy all appetites.  This Puerto Rican cuisine restaurant Sofrito is located at 400 East 57th Street and 1st ave. Their cuisine is a taste of home in Puerto Rico matched with a caribbean atmosphere that puts you in another world where you actually forget NY is to greet you outside!! You are greeted at the entrance with a lovely, sophisticated dressed staff to direct you to either their dining room, entertaining bar, VIP section, or either small booths for groups who choose to lounge more so than dine.  Let us just say which ever you choose, they're all great options. This spot is great for all your events.  With loud boosting spanish music with an occasional live band, come have dinner with your family, have a first date, celebrate someone's birthday, or even just hanging out with your friends.

To match such a hot & sophisticated atmosphere is their aromatic menu of appetizers, main courses, and desserts.  Savor such well proportioned delicacies as Arroz Con Pechuga de Pollo (rice with chicken breast), and Pernil Con Arroz Y Gandules (roast pork with pigeon pea rice) just to name a few.  For an appetizer we do, and we mean DO, recommend the empanada's!!! They're unlike any other with a crunchy crust outside but a soft middle filled with well seasoned herb & spice chicken or beef.  Finish out the night with a traditional Tres Leches (a moist sponge cake bathed in 3 types of milk).

Want to impress a first date, wow your bestie for her bday, have a drink with the boys in search of some classy women, have a night out with the wife and kids, this is the place to BE!!!

That's My Kinda Recipe:

Homestyle Banana Pudding

Home-Style Banana Pudding

Ingredients:

3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups milk, low fat or whole
3 large egg yolks
3 tablespoons butter, room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla
vanilla wafer cookies
3 to 4 bananas, ripe but firm
sweetened whipped cream or whipped topping
banana slices for garnish
mint sprigs, optional
Preparation:

Combine the sugar, salt, and flour; stir to blend. Slowly stir in milk until smooth. Pour into the top of a double boiler over boiling water. Cook, stiring frequently, until the mixture begins to thicken.
In a small bowl, whisk the egg yolks; gradually whisk in about 1 cup of the slightly thickened hot milk mixture. Return egg mixture to the double boiler, stir in the vanilla and butter, and continue whisking and cooking until well thickened. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
In tall dessert glasses or a 2-quart serving dish, make a layer of vanilla wafers then sliced banana. Spoon some of the pudding over the banana layer then layer more vanilla wafers and banana slices, topping with more pudding. Serve with whipped cream topping. If using short dessert dishes, use only one layer each of the wafers, banana slices, and pudding, and then top with a dollop of whipped cream. Garnish each serving with a few slices of banana and a mint sprig if desired.
Serves 6 to 8.

Music Monday

     The Modern Day Hippie

Spita is now best known for his current single (originally released Dec. 14th, 2010 by Island/Def Jam Digital Entitled: Spita - Human), & 2010 Nomination in the MP3 Music Awards for "Best Unsigned Act".  The video for "Human" was a great success with receiving over 30,000 youtube views in under 3 months. With much due praise and hard work, it's no wonder the word unique wouldn't suffice to explain his complex flow. While taking inspiration from the occurrences of his life; as well as politics and religion. He has been titled as the "Modern Day Hippie"!! Spreading a message of "Why hate when you can love?" In his song titled "Cold Summer" off of his latest project "LAST MIXTAPE EVER"

1. If there was anyone past or present, that
you could sit and exchange ideas with. Who would it be and why?

Spita: Bob Marley because, i seek to understand the knowledge in which he embedded into his incredible music

Spita: I would say; you literally can see me actually finding out who Spita worldpeace really is.

3.What are your feelings on being deemed "The Modern Day Hippie"?

Spita: Well its a title that i accept and love especially since it started off as me joking on myself but then i was inspired by the irony, next ting you know everyone is calling me a hippie.

4. What barriers in hip hop do you feel can be torn down with ur music? Is there a underline message?

Spita: well that's really the question i like to ask my listeners because everyone has their own individual way of thinking... all i can say truthfully is that i always speak from my heart. No matter what the topic or concept.

5.What is your next project?

Spita: We have a lot of stuff ... The artist i'm now managing Dezzy Yates  is releasing his mix-tape "day Dreaming Til Showtime" next. Then i'm releasig a special project called "Peace and Love". Following that is a kind of "Watch The Throne" project called "Fear None" where I kinda pass Dezzy the torch per se.

6.What would you like to tell your future fans/supporters?

Spita: Thank You To All Those Who Are Viewing www.iamspita.com, Listening & Leaving Comments, I Appreciate & Thank You Graciously!!

SCANDALOUS SATURDAYS

"If women didn't exist, all the money in the world would have no meaning."
                                                                                                      -Aristotle Onassis

Goodbye eighty plus degree weather and trips to the beach with your girls.  Sayonara to outdoor fun meeting and greeting various men and women.  Fall is here and as the men are saying let the “Cuffing” games began!!!  Ladies, let’s just be so excited about spending quality time, cooking meals, performing your best ever, for a companionship that’s going to end in an eight month period. Really??!!!

“Cuffing” huh, sounds more like a term for imprisonment; instead of a term of endearment.  In all honesty, why would you think that anyone would enjoy being a seasonal jump-off? Establishing a connection; that really may not exist. Would you be able to leave the situation with no hard feelings?   However, one should keep in mind that although males become braggadocios about “cuffing”. We as females are entitled to have a “sponsor.”  To clarify by no means does having said sponsor(s) make a female a gold-digger, if we intentionally seduce and mind screw you than that is another issue entirely. The key factor at hand is to always keep the window for honesty open, so no misunderstandings occur in such a situation. Yes, you may enjoy being “the boss”; but being a boss comes with a high price.

                                                        “THE TRICKING CLAUSE”

"WHEN IN DOUBT, WEAR RED"

                                              -BILL BLASS

                                                                                         LADY IN RED

It’s like that scene From “Pretty Woman” when Julia Robert is leaving the hotel to go to the orchestra with Richard Gere and all eyes are on her. So radiant and elegant she was definitely the center of attention, making that scene the most memorable of the movie. Now fast forward eleven years; think you can still have that same effect?  YES YOU CAN!! Red is the color of the season and it is unquestionably a BOLD trend for the fall of 2011.  From clothes to accessories, red is that wow factor that can make any attire pop to perfection. Because it is such a brave color it can be a total disaster or a complete success. With that said, make sure your rocking the red that best suits you. Red can be worn by two dissimilar types of people characteristically however have the same amazing results. For the conservative female, say you’re going to a business dinner but don’t want your boss to remember you as “her from the 3rd floor”? Throw on that black dress with either a red purse or jacket. There is nothing wrong with playing it safe. I’m sure your chair will be pulled out and someone else will be picking up the tab. For the outspoken female who adores attention, an all red apparel such as a pants suit or mini dress will have heads turning while the song “Whose that lady” plays in the background.  Whatever the case, formulate red into your closet in all styles and your ready to face fall more daring than the last!

Theory Thursday

The things that we crave the most are the things that destroy us the quickest.”
                                                                                                              ~ Wiz Khalifa

                                                                     ROLL UP THEORY

They say “The grass is not always greener on the other side.”So why is it that so many people are tempted to water it? The yearning to lay foot on new territory out of curiosity. Not knowing what type of infestation may lie beneath the soil.  With such recognition from the music industry, it kind of makes you wonder if we as society should find comfort in the idea of a “roll up” “insurance policy” “spear tire” “ bench warmers” “starting five” “ side chick” “ mistress” etc.   Infamous lyrics mentioned in various artists’ songs pertaining to the subject seem to promote the concept at hand. For example the lines “When you at home, that’s your man…Soon as you land you say it’s all me” and “…you keep fitting me in your plans and fucking up..Your man’s gonna catch onto us” from the 2010 release of Wiz Khalifa’s song “Roll Up” illustrates the facade of a successful affair.

In reality there is so much more than what meets the eye.  It starts out as fulfilling the needs of which one has been lacking.  Reasons varying from lack of attention, time spent away from one another, broken trust, and of course sexual appetites being left neglected.   As the singer Joe says “I’d give the world to make you mine” and most famously “Baby I wanna do all the things your man won’t do,” thus leaving a vacancy for the next man or woman to step into your shoes.  However the ideal of finding what is lacking at home can come with many setbacks and repercussions.  The laid back individual who is supposed to decrease stress begins to add fuel to the flames looking for titles to be set and placed.  As there aren’t any set rules and regulations in this scenario it is highly advised to keep all feelings neutral in other words KNOW YOUR PLACE, AND PLAY YOUR POSITION!!!!

Beyond one or both parties catching feelings, while playing coy, there's other negative aspects to this affair not being so successful.  As this affair continues further than the “breaking you off” occurrences one has to ponder various cause and effects.

WHAT DO U THINK????

  1. If  having a significant other, why have a "roll up" if you can choose to "roll out"???
  2. Can having a "roll up" be successful??
  3. Is the role of a "roll up" gender specified???
  4. Is falling for the "roll up" Unacceptable???
  5. If  the "roll up" has a significant other, is he/ she looked upon negatively by the person who's sharing such guilty pleasures???
  6. To avoid "I'll bust your windows out your car" incidents from taken place, should there be a "roll up" Agreement???
  7. What boundary has to be crossed for you to cut your "roll up" OFF???

WANTED WEDNESDAY

"The  best way to appreciate your job is to imagine yourself without one"
                                                                                            -Oscar Wilde

A Successful Resume

When interviewing for a position, nothing summarizes your credentials more than your resume.   First and foremost your resume is your first step in being considered for an interview, let alone why or why not you should be considered for the position in which you are seeking. When producing a successful resume there is more to it than just a name, address, education, and work experience.  You want to be sure that the proper layout and formatting is used as well as punctuality and grammar.  Give enough information without giving too much.  Leave just enough to keep the employer skeptical to hear from you, making what is typed on paper come to life.

For starters a successful resume must be typed!!! (Please do not embarrass yourself or 1STCLASSLADIES)  You begin with a center margin to state your full name, (No nicknames, street names, twitter names, or other aliases) address, contact number (home and of course cell phone), and email address.  Please note to keep all contact information to a minimum, an employer does not need to know every possible way to contact you.

Your first point to make is your objective.  This is where you inform the employer of what you are capable of bringing forth to the company and the position based on your former endeavors.  It is the insight of your professional goals to obtain, it gives direction and focus to your resume.

Next to produce is the list of work experience.  This gives an employer a look at where you've previously/presently employed as well as your title and various tasks.  This point in a resume can be tricky as to the do's and don'ts.  You want to list jobs from present to past. Letting it be known your most current work first.

Do's

  • Make sure your list of positions and tasks are easy to read.
  • Keep the amount of pages to a minimum. (Employers want to read a summary, not an autobiography) One to two pages are ideal.  Three to be considered if only absolutely necessary to do justice to getting your credentials acknowledgment.
  • List time frame of employment (longevity is a plus)
  • Stress your past accomplishments especially those that pertain to the position in which you are applying for.
  • Be NEAT!!!!  A poorly structured, badly typed resume tells much to the reader.
Don'ts

  • Include personal references.  Only by request in person.
  • Odd size paper or even loud colors.  Good quality paper only.
  • Include your salary history or reasons for leaving previous jobs.
  • Discuss any personal hobbies and such.  Only room for business.
  • Reference any outside organizations, memberships, etc unless they show apply to your job objectives.

Your education especially if having attended and graduated college should be prominent.  Mention not only degrees but also honors in specific areas.  Be sure to write out your degree, no abbreviations and graduation date.

The ending to a successful resume should list any certifications and licenses that you've acquired. All components combined helps you to create a successful resume, of course with your own touch.
