Thoughts For Thursday

When the lives and the rights of children are at stake, there must be no silent witnesses- Carol Bellamy

They Are The World... They Are Our Children

How many times do you see a child with a bruise, ask them how they got and they always have the perfect excuse.? Though most may brush it off the first time, how many times there after do we as the public allow the bruises to continue and except the stories the child or guardian may give you? Approximately five children die a day  due to abuse and/or neglect and 80% are under 4yrs old. In 2010, an estimated 1,560 children died from abuse and neglect in the United States according to the National Children's Alliance. This number may not seem like much to some, but these are not dollars. There our children; our future and the ones that will lead us to great things. Who's job is it to make sure that they have the opportunity to do so? As a parent you have a divine animal right to protect your own life and the life of your offspring. But who protects those whose parents are the abuser?  Who protects those who have no one to fight for them? The answer is simple: WE ALL DO!! April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. It is seen as a time to recognize that we each can play a part in promoting the social and emotional well being of children and the families in our community.

The most obvious signs can be overlooked sometimes when it comes to child abuse or neglect. Here are a few to look out for
  • Shows sudden changes in behavior or school performance
  • Hasn't received help for physical/medical problems which have been brought to  the parents attention
  • Has learning problems that can't be attributed to specific physical/psychological causes
  • Always watchful like they are preparing for the worse
  • Is overly compliant, an overachiever, or too responsible
  • comes to school too early, stays late and NEVER wants to go home
There also signs for the parent as well:
  • Shows little to no concern for the child: rarely answering  to request from schools for meetings, information, or even home visits.
  • Is in denial of or blames the child for problems in school/home
  • Views the child as bad, worthless or burdensome.
  • Demands perfection either physical or academically on levels that are impossible to achieve
Abuse and neglect by that of a guardian is not always their intention. Some are overwhelmed with work, under paid, dealing with bills, the home and kid(s) can be a challenge. Not everyone can carry out such a tall order especially if they are doing it alone. One can become burnt out taking their frustration out on the innocent or neglecting their needs because the have to work so hard to provide whatever they can.

Though that is not an excuse or a free pass to do so, it is the unfortunate truth. So what can we do in order to avoid this situation from occurring? Let these few tips be a helpful guide:
  • Be a friend to another parent. Inquire about their children, call and be there for them. Make sure to reassurance and support them. If a parent seems to be struggling, offer to baby-sit or run errands, or just lend a friendly ear. Show them you understand and that your their for them.
  • Be a friend to a child you know. Remember their names and smile when you talk with them. Ask them about their day at school. Send them a card in the mail. Show you care and they may be more willing to open up to you about problems.
  • The neighborhood is a family. Encourage a supportive spirit among parents in your apartment building or on your block. Show that you are involved. When the kids play, have enough eyes watching. Protect the youth as a whole and not just your own as you would want the same done for yours in return.
Abuse and neglect of a child is never okay and we should never stand for it. If you see something is wrong, you don't have to be a mandated reporter in order to stop it. Understand 1stClassLadies is NOT saying you can not discipline your child as we are all mothers and know that straighting them out when they have done wrong is a must. We are simply stating there is a limit and you should know what its. They did not ask to be here so they should not have to pay for it in the form of abuse or neglect. They will some day run this world- shouldn't it be run by good people?

WANTED WEDNESDAYS

The work place changes as society changes.  Just imagine going to a fast food restaurant to order out.  You get to the front of the line, anxious to order that sandwich that youve been craving all day, the worker says "Hi, how can I help you" as soon as you open your mouth to start ordering you hear a Rihanna ringtone and she grabs her phone and says "Hello....."  Im sure everyone would either say or be thinking......"I KNOW SHE DIDNT."  A complete turn off as a consumer and on behalf of the employee what we like to call a DISTRACTION!!!  Well,  a lot of employers are changing office policies on what is  not to be tolerated on the job.  We are here to give you our list of TOP DISTRACTIONS while at work.

                        CELL PHONES

The what did we do before cell phones question has become something so far in the past.  So far it hurts to actually think of what we did since most people cant do without them.  However one place that can do without them is your place of work.  Its one thing to be caught by your boss talking on the job phone for leisure, but one hundred times worse if being caught by your boss using your cell phone for leisure.    In most places of work cell phones arent allowed to even be carried on you, having disceplinary actions if being found out!!!  So ladies & gents save the phone talk for lunch or break!!

                                                               SOCIAL MEDIA

As technology has crazily advanced there isnt many places of work that doesnt work by computer.  Most employees either work on a computer or have access to a computer.  All being said your boss wants paper work processed and not your status on FaceBook processed.  With so many different social media sights and that little bit of down time you might have, we understand the temptation you might have but be strong, its not worth the unprofessionalism it will scream if your company checks your previous history and all thats listed is Twitter, Skype, etc.

LOVE JONES

One thing above all things you DO NOT want to bring into the work place is your personal love endeavors.  No matter if your single out in the world mingling, married, divorced, seperated, in between, baby mama, baby daddy drama, DO NOT, we repeat DO NOT bring that into the work place.  Mama never told you growing up "What happens at home stays at home"!!  Well, 1stclassladies is telling you.  It is the tackiest when Shaquanna and them roll up to your normally quiet office to start some drama all because she found out youve been cheating.  So have some class and never bring home with you to work!!

FIVE GUYS

This burger spot derived exactly from its name, FIVE GUYS.  A family of five that is.  There concept has been around since 1986 and remains the same.  Serve fresh juicy burgers with as many toppings as two buns can hold ordered by the customer.  You can choose from a little or little bacon to a big or big bacon burger with 15 toppings!!   Along side those burgers are their french fries that unlike any other burger spot are the fresh es cut fries cooked in peanut oil and also come in Cajun style!!!!

There is something about a homemade burger that just feels right. Compared to the ordinary burger, its more filling and a worth eating! I guess that's why 1stclassLadies prefer Burger urway! Nothing like the plain old patty, burger urway is 100% Angus beef cooked to perfection. Jennifer of 1CL favorite style burger? Bacon cheeseburger! You not only want a cooked burger but cooked bacon and they don't forget that. Its not a rushed job so you don't have to worry about getting home with your topping all over the place. Scandalous Saturday

" There Is A Difference Between Who We Love, Who We Settle With.. And Who We Are Meant For"
                                                                                                            - Angelia. W

Is It Really All Fair In Love And War Of The Sexes?

Way before Steve Harvey, one of the 1stClassLadies had a motto. And it went a lil something like this... "Act Like A Lady; Think Like A Man.. So You Don't Get Played Like A Bitch"!! And after seeing the movie yesterday; it led us to draw the question. Do we as women really need a play book on men to have successful relationships? We mean shouldn't it be a common sense thing? There is always a red flag ladies, sometimes we're just too optimistic. We all know when a man is a Player, Momma's Boy, Non- Committed, Dreamer, or just a Bad Boy!

So why the sudden epiphany with the release of Mr. Harvey's book and movie? Could it be a reinforcement of everything we as women already think, but are afraid to admit to ourselves sometimes? We think so.

It's all about instincts and common sense; we just allow ourselves to be (excuse our language)*  "Mind Fucked"!! There is no shade of gray, we just mix the black and white to create the hue we want in a man. However, we applaud Mr.Harvey for telling it like it is. There is no dumbing down of how trifling a man can be; or how naive we as women can become in search of "Mr.Right". Yet we somehow get "Mr. Right Now". Hell, we all have been .. The Single Mom, The Independent Woman, The Woman Seeking The Ring; and me personally "The 90 day rule woman" (yes, I admit it.. And a few of my ex's will say I went past that)*

Can you blame us?  Fellas our tactics of dealing with men; have stemmed from something way deeper. Sure we as woman have to compromise on certain things but not everything. Chivalry is not dead, so fellas be happy if your woman your interested in is requiring a certain standard. Open a door, engage in her mind.. And not just reaching to conquer. Better yet devour her cookie.. leaving her with mere crumbs and a regret.

If your a dreamer, good for you! Make sure you show initiative and your woman will try to help your dreams become reality.  Ladies we have to motivate our men to greatness sometimes, instead of tearing them down. If you are a mama's boy.. It's time to let go of that apron; we know that no one can compete with your mothers. We don't ask to, we simply ask for attentiveness to know you can be a man without depending on the nestling of your mom. There is no reason the woman you love; or are interested in should have to compete for time or affection.

If your afraid of commitment, then you need to analyze if your willing to let a good thing pass. Sometimes a lack of commitment can hold you back from the greatest thing you've had. And as women we need to realize that our optimism will not change this type of mans mind set. Just because you love him, is not a valid enough reason to settle or sell ones self short. Meeting his standards and having a one-sided relationship is not healthy. Men please realize this " You can't keep her waiting; just because you know she will."
