"As the Hurricane Sandy cleanup and recovery continues, the list of fashion brands and stores that are donating to the cause grows, too. Here are additional ways you can help by loading up on designer shoes, organic beauty products, and warm outerwear from retailers that are donating portions of their proceeds to relief efforts."

Rachel Comey: Grab clothing and footwear from this hip NYC designer when 15 percent of all online sales this week will be donated to New York Cares to support Sandy victims.

Bloomingdales: Many Hurricane Sandy victims are still without basic necessities, which is why the department store has pledged to donate 250,000 bottles of water to relief efforts and is asking shoppers to help bring the number up to 500,000 through in-store donations.

Grey Area: This art-meets-fashion retailer has teamed up with visual artist Sebastian Errazuriz to create a pair of Hurricane Sandy-themed T-shirts with 100 percent of the profits going towards relief programs.

Penfield USA: Browse for classic parkas and cozy flannels at the all-American retailer's website, knowing $10 from every order will be donated to the American Red Cross.

Lacoste: This preppy brand wants to ensure children impacted by the storm have a happy holiday season by kicking off a three-week toy drive at all New York and select New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania boutiques. The company will match each toy brought in, and also offer a 20 percent discount for donating.

Peek Brooklyn: Stock up on fashionable legwear to ward off the winter chill—this local hosiery e-tailer is donating 10 percent of all sales to Red Hook and Rockaway relief funds through November 11.

TOM As a company that has built its brand around charitable giving, it's no surprise that the label is turning its philanthropic eye to the Hurricane Sandy relief. This week, $10 from every eyewear and $5 from every footwear purchase will be given to Save the Children to support storm victims.

SPiN New York: Visit Susan Sarandon’s ping-pong nightclub for her SPiN for a Cause event, in which your pay-what-you-like entry fee goes towards Hurricane Sandy relief and gives you access to DJs, cocktails, and raffle prizes.

"thats my recipe"

Ingredients

4 teaspoons olive oil
1 medium onion, coarsely chopped
1 pound ground beef
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
14 (8-ounce package) manicotti
1 (15-ounce) container whole-milk ricotta
3 cups shredded mozzarella
1 cup grated Parmesan
2 tablespoons chopped fresh Italian parsley leaves
2 garlic cloves, minced
3 cups marinara sauce
2 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces

Directions

Heat a heavy medium skillet over medium heat. Add 1 teaspoon of the olive oil, onion and ground beef. Season with salt and pepper. Saute until the meat browns and the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat, and cool.

Brush 1 teaspoon of oil over a large baking sheet. Cook the manicotti in a large pot of boiling salted water until slightly softened, but still very firm to the bite, about 4 to 6 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the manicotti from the pot to the oiled baking sheet and cool.

Meanwhile, combine the ricotta, 1 1/2 to 2 cups mozzarella cheese, 1/2 cup Parmesan, and parsley. Add the garlic, salt, and pepper to taste, and mix. Stir the cooled meat mixture into the cheese mixture.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Brush the remaining 2 teaspoons of oil over a 13 by 9 by 2-inch glass baking dish. Spoon 1 1/2 cups of the marinara sauce over the bottom of the prepared dish. Fill the manicotti with the cheese-meat mixture. Arrange the stuffed pasta in a single layer in the prepared dish and spoon the remaining sauce over.

Sprinkle the remaining 1 1/2 cups of mozzarella cheese, then the remaining 1/2 cup of Parmesan over the stuffed pasta. Dot entire dish with the butter pieces. Bake the manicotti uncovered until heated through and the sauce bubbles on the sides of the dish, about 30 to 35 minutes. Let the manicotti stand 5 minutes and serve.

The $30 Challenge!

You don't want to spend an arm and a leg on makeup and then have no money to go out and show it off- JennLo 1CL

The Makeup Challenge!

Every girl who loves makeup needs a start. A place to begin as far as what products does she need, which ones are a must have or an option, which items should she splurge on and which items can she save a buck or two on. 1ClassLadies have been feeling out different products both drugstore as well as high end beauty products. Here we have put together a $30 challenge. If your just beginning there is no need to spend big dollars until you know exactly what its you want as far as a look and what you want the products to do for you. So ladies grab a pen and paper to take notes. We are going to help you pick out the must have products for an everyday look without killing your pocket.Ready... Set... Lets GO!!

Lets start with the face. If your going to get a foundation pick one that is right for you so KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE. Oily, dry, normal, do you need full coverage, etc. JennLo from 1ClassLadies loves using Revlon Colorstay foundation. It comes in all styles for all skin types, great coverage and oh course affordable.
                                                                        Total: $10.19 @ Target

To set your foundation we use a powder. Revlon powder is great but since we are doing a $30 challenge we had to pick another product. Try the E.l.f translucent powder. Its white in the container but goes on clear which makes it great for anyone.
                                                                Total: $6.00  Target

Now though you can set your foundation with the warmth of your fingers you can also utilize a sponge or foundation brush. The translucent powder comes with an applicator but we prefer you use a powder brush as the applicator that's provided for you applies to much of the powder.
                                                                Total: $1.00 @Target

For the eyes a wing line is enough for an everyday look. Eye shadows are optional and not a must so if you do not apply any it is okay. A wing eye adds a little spice without over doing your face so it can be worn for any occasion.Try Wet & Wild eyeliner as an affordable liner. The thicker the line the more intense the look if you like.
                                                                               Total:$3.00 @ Rite Aid

For your lips 1ClassLadies love ALL brands. For a reasonable pricing lipstick you can try the Wet & Wild lipsticks and combine it with a lip liner. Don't forget if you buy a color that is to bright you can darken it with a darker liner. This way you do not have to through away the lipstick you purchase or let it sit there and go to waste.
                     Total: $2.59 lipstick/ $1 lip liner @ Rite Aid

Cheeks can be whatever color you want- Pink, peach, etc.  Blush can be playful which is always fun. Try the NYX blush which 1ClassLadies find to be a good brand for anyone.
Total:$4.50 @ any beauty supply store

GRAND TOTAL: $28.28

This is just a starter kit for people who are jut getting into makeup and need an inexpensive start. By no means are we saying this is the ONLY products but we hope we helped some people who had no where to begin. 1stClassLadies have used each of these products either now or at some point in time and feel they are all good beginning tools.

CARMINES

"Not just your average Spaghetti & Meatball's"
-Trina

New York has some of the best restaurants above all over the world.  People from all over come to eat here!  Those who are here dine often.  With such great restaurant picks , its no wonder people don't cook at home!!!

Carmine's is a family style Italian restaurant offering exceptional value to its guests through their many dishes.  Trust when we say "Exceptional".  Have had the pleasure of dining at the Upper West Side location you walk in to a restaurant that has a close to home feeling.  The ambiance is dim lighting and a bar that will remind you of the sitcom "Cheers".  As you walk up the stairs, in suspense as to what else this restaurant can offer, you are greeted by a large room filled with tables of families, friends, lovers, and co workers all enjoying great food, laughter, and conversation!!

Carmine's Southern Italian cuisine offers a variety of pastas, meats and seafood, appetizers, and desserts, all listed above.  We recommend for starters the Spicy Scarpariello Wings (if your not afraid of a little spice), for a dish we recommend the following; Chicken Parm with Penne Pasta, Manicotti, or Shrimp Scampi, and for dessert, of course, Tiramisu!!

 HAM & SWISS PIZZA

INGREDIENTS

                                                          6
                                          eggs, beaten
1
package (10 ounces) ready-to-serve thin pizza crust or Italian bread shell (12 to 14 inches in diameter)
1/4
cup mayonnaise or salad dressing
2
tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/2
cup diced fully cooked ham
4
medium green onions, sliced (1/4 cup)
1/4
cup chopped red bell pepper
1
cup shredded Swiss cheese (4 ounces)

Heat oven to 400°. Spray 10-inch nonstick skillet with cooking spray; heat over medium heat.  Pour eggs into skillet. As mixture begins to set at bottom and side, gently lift cooked portions with spatula so that thin, uncooked portion can flow to bottom. Avoid constant stirring. Cook 3 to 4 minutes or until eggs are thickened throughout but still moist.  Place pizza crust on ungreased cookie sheet. Mix mayonnaise and mustard; spread evenly over crust. Top with eggs, ham, onions, bell pepper and cheese. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until cheese is melted.

Be safe. Be Prepared

Be safe. Be prepared. It's just that simple- 1stClassLadies

In light of the terrible Sandy hurricane that hit the New York Area we here at aplateofthisacupofthat would like to say we hope that our readers  as well as their families are doing okay. Our hearts and prayers go out to those that have been affected by this tragedy and we will continue to keep you in our thoughts as the city continues to recover. With that in mind 1stClassLadies thought it was important to help our readers be prepared in case we were ever in a situation such as Sandy again. We have put together a few guides in order to help be safe and be prepared.

Have the proper material. Have flashlights. batteries, candles and all the properties needed in order to keep your home a float in case of power outage. This is a kit that should ALWAYS be accessible to you and not just in the case of a natural disaster.

Easy eating. Prep your home with food that doesn't require being heated up with the help of electricity.  Stock up on dry and canned foods that can be made with water or minimum heat. Foods such as  canned beans, canned soups, stews, dry as well as canned milk, canned fruits, vegetables and granola bars are all good examples of what you can get. Also make sure to have plenty of water available depending on the family size.

Clear the floor. Anything that you have laying on the floor or in the basement that can be damaged by water should be removed. Pictures, papers, electronics, things that you know are expensive financially and emotionally. You always hear people say they lost so much but the things they lost that hurt the most are the things they can not get back. Try stacking things high and out the way to avoid these loses as much as possible.

Investments are a good thing. Small gasoline- powered generators, solar cookers, a portable phone charger and a good first aid kit are all things a family should invest in and would definitely come in handy in the case of another Sandy. They may not be used often but when the power goes out you will be sure to have had these things.

Think about your vehicle. Avoid parking by tress and wires that can fall on your vehicles. this is a tough one but it can be done. If parking lots are available to you utilize them. Remove anything in your car that has any meaning to you in the case your ( God forbid) is flooded.

If your told to evacuate DO IT. Your safety and that of your loved ones is MOST important. Understand no one would tell you to leave your home if they didn't feel is was a necessary precaution. PLEASE we ask you to do so if instructed to. No life is worth being lost because we felt it's not going to be as big as they say. Let's not chance our lives like that.

We would like to say that even though the City was parallized for a bit, this storm was well prepared for and well organized from the beginning to end. Organized aftermath is what this city needed. Though alot do not view it that way know and understand no one could ever be 100% ready and prepared. And this city was as prepared as they could be. We would like to thank all of those who put their lives on the line during this hurricane to save someone else. Your hard work and dedication to this city has not gone unnoticed. Thank you to the volunteers and shelters that have went the extra mile to help those who have lost so much.
