Thoughts For Thursday

Because every baby deserves a chance to live- unknown

Our children are the future and we want them to grow up to live long lives. We want them to be smart, strong and healthy. In order for that to happen we give them books to teach them and activities as well as healthy foods to keep them strong. We take them to the doctors for shots and to make sure their in good health. However their are some children who were born with having not such luck. They are the preterm, premature, babies of birth defects and unfortunately those who will never get a chance to bless the earth with their presents. To try prevent this from occurring, we should educate ourselves on pregnancy and babies as much as we can. That is were March Of Dimes comes into place.

March Of Dimes is a nonprofit organization that works to better the lives of both babies as well as parents. March Of Dimes lives by the mission "help moms have full-term pregnancies and research the problems that threaten the health of babies." Alot of mother's do not know the many things that could go wrong with their baby if they are born preterm or premature. Here are a few facts about babies:

  • More than half a million babies are born prematurely each year in the United States.
  • As many as 16,000 premature babies in the US develop some degree of ROP (retinopathy of prematurity) every year. The smallest babies, those born at less than 32 weeks gestation, are at the highest risk.
  • More than 120,000 babies are born with a birth defect and is the leading cause in baby deaths.
  • One of every three premature births can be attributed by an infection in a woman’s uterus, which may have had no symptoms.
March of Dimes is working to make these number lower and the number of babies surviving higher. and you can help! Donate to the cause and save a future child from the tragedy. Give them a chance at life. Visit the March Of Dimes site to see how you can do so. From a small donation to giving your car to the children of the future.
