Unorthodox Perfection
We have to thank my cousin Lauren Arroyo, for this next stroke of genius. Shamir, is beyond talented and possess the versatility needed to succeed. But hearing is believing; and trust us your in for a delightful surprise. 1CL:Who are your influences?
My main influences are Michael Jackson, R. Kelly, Usher, Chris Brown, Craig David, Tupac Shakur, Marvin Gaye, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, Blackstreet, Boyz 2 Men, Pink Floyd, and a lot of other artists of various genres. Nevertheless, I’m inspired by any type of music because I feel that music is universal and can affect you regardless of who it is.
My mission in the music industry is to show as much versatility and uniqueness as I can without having to clone the style of another artist with my own sound. My ultimate mission is to have a very profound and uplifting impact and to spark the brains of the people in this world and bringing back R&B but also showing a different agenda where I can bring out the new school swag with old school flavor. My mission is not only to show I am a vocalist, but also an entertainer who is almost somewhat limitless to creativity and performance showing all of what I can do. That includes playing the piano and guitar, acting, and dancing. I want to separate myself from the rest and be able to establish my own genre of music.
1CL: If there was anyone you could sit ad exchange ideas with, who would it be and why?
I would honestly love to exchange ideas with Michael Jackson, Barack Obama, R. Kelly, Michael Jordan, Martin Luther King Jr., Floyd Mayweather Jr. , Jay-Z, and Tupac Shakur because these men have reached a very high climax of power and success and as leaders and mentors showing the world that anyone can make anything happen as long as they believe in themselves. I feel that all of these men have a different dosage of influence because all of them influence me in their own way and in many cases help me push myself to strive for perfection and prosperity.
I would absolutely without a doubt agree that my sound is very different from other artists because of the flavor and energy I give, whether it’s singing and songwriting or producing and playing instruments. My producer Al Barber is very much into R&B from the old school days and makes it a known fact for my career that we will bring R&B back to life as well as create my own lane for other artists to follow.Did you come up with the concept for your video "Two Steppin"; or was it a combined effort with the director?
1CL:Did you come up with the concept for your video "two steppin"; or was it a combined effort with the director
The concept for “Two Steppin” was originally created by my video director; Joey Mhz. Joey came up with the settings and framework of the whole video and put it all together with his imagination and excellent creativeness. Of course, I voiced little opinions with Joe but he deserves the acclaim for the success of the video. What I love about Joey is that he’s very inquisitive and is always willing to try new things to be different.
The motivation behind writing and singing these songs in actuality are the experiences in life that I face, whether it’s good or bad. All of my emotion comes out in my songs because of the way I truly feel about that particular situation. I think that’s what makes music so meaningful. It’s what you go through or went through and being able to share it with the world so they can relate to you. That’s one of the secrets to making a hit.
I would like the public and my fans to know that anything is possible and if you believe in yourself, then you can make anything happen. I personally don’t see myself better than anybody else because I sing or am in the music industry. I see myself as a regular human just like everyone else searching to make my dreams reality and to be successful. I think that everyone is talented at something and is possible of being successful as long as they put in the work. In this world were living in, we will receive a thousand “no’s” before we hear one “yes” and it takes courage and perseverance to keep pushing, but due time, hard work always brings good results. I want the public and my fans to also know that money isn’t everything to me, and nor is fame. I love music deeply and I always will, whether I was a paid superstar or not. I want the people to know that there is a huge price that comes with fame, and this life isn’t meant for everybody. Not everything is what it seems, and you have to have a good team behind you in order to always steer you in the right direction.
My goals for my music project are releasing my new video “Right Here (Goin in circles)”, getting ready for my high school “Anti-Bullying” Tour and College tour, performing at multiple showcases as well as industry venues, promoting , finishing my album, finishing my mix tape, starting up a big video production for my r&b hit single “Fallin”, having a successful video release party in the summer, and to take over 2012.
