Tasteful Tuesday

Good manners is the art of making those people easy with whom we converse. Whoever makes the fewest people uneasy is the best bred in the room. -Jonathan Swift

There Is That Way And Then There Is The Right Way

So 1stClassLadies was enjoying a night in watching some movies when the "daddy's Girl" scene in the restaurant came on. You know what we're talking about; Mr. Can I get some "skrimp!" Though we all laughed, if it ever happened to us for real we would DIE! Though the scene may have stretched the truth a bit to keep the audience attention, its not all a lie. Years ago, the style of eating was very different. It was done as a family, having a certain time, and a specific place. Now a days the aspect of meals have changed becoming more relax thus relaxing the sense of food etiquette's.
There are basic rules when it comes to dinning out or just having a simple meal in one's cozy home that EVERYONE must follow. Like chewing with your mouth closed, elbows off the table and not to reach over others. However there are also dinning etiquette's for other occasions as well. Here is a list of a few:

                                                                     Parties and Gifts
  • Always RSVP with reasonable timing when invited to an event even if you will not be attending. Holding off or not responding will give the host/hostess the impression you are trying to see if something better comes along.
  • If it is not a housewarming, do not as for a tour of their place unless one is offered so.
  • Bringing a small gift for the host/hostess is a nice gesture but make sure it is not something that will keep them from their event. However, if the host clearly states no gift respect his or her wishes and do so. You do not want to offend those who arrived without a gift.
  • In the event of a wedding and the invitation states you  and a guess do not call and ask can you bring your children.
  • It is okay to still send a gift even if one will not be attending the wedding. It shows a sense of compassion and respect.
  • Thank you notes for a wedding is a MUST. If they can take the time out to get you a gift then you can take the time out to send them a small gesture of gratitude.
                                                                    Dining out
  • If you arrive before your party you may be seated and even order a drink. You should wait to order food until the rest arrive. However to already be in the middle of a meal when they come may make them uneasy.
  • If this is a date, the gentlemen should pull out the seat for the lady. When she goes to the bathroom he should also stand up. These are two very old table etiquette rules but, they still will make any 1stClassLady blush.
  • If one must blow their nose or freshen up, the bathroom is the one and ONLY place this should be done NOT the table.
  • Your server should receive 8% of the bill. Sometimes more and other times less (depending on group size and/or the services.) You only have to tip the HOST if you received special services from him/her.
                                                                 Phone Usage
  • In most places other then your home, it is rude to talk on your cell phone when eating if the call is not significantly important. If you must answer, excuse yourself from the table and make it as quick and discreet as possible.
  • If this dinner is a business one, be sure to place your phone on vibrate to eliminate obsessive interruptions.
  • Keep your phone off the table and in your purse or pocket. Everyone does not need to see and know how many text msgs and fb updates you get.
Follow these 1st class rules and who knows.... Maybe one day you'll be dinning  with us       1stClassLadies!!!
