Thoughts For Thursday

"I have never accepted what many people have kindly said, namely that I inspired the Nation. It was the nation and the race dwelling around the globe that had the lion heart. I had the luck to be called upon to give the roar"
- Sir Winston Churchill, Speech Nov. 1954

While your out buying the most important women in your life a special present for upcoming day, take note that this month is also used to appreciate a different kind of person. It is not just for the wonderful and overachieving moms out there though TRUST us we want our moms to KNOW they are great. May is National Military Appreciation Month which is when we take time out to honor, recognize and appreciate both the men and women that have served or is still serving our country. It is also a way for soldiers, family and friends to show thanks for all the support they received from private sectors as well as army families.

NMAM is a time to combine both the history and recognition of our armed services with an in-depth look at the diversity of its individuals and their achievements. It allows the public to educate upcoming generations on the historical impact of our military with the help of the community and those who serve encouraging patriotism and love for America. There is a list of days within the month of May that is utilized for appreciation:
  • Loyalty Day (May 1st)
  • Military Spouse Appreciation Day (May 11th)
  • VE Day(May 8th)
  • Armed Forces Day (May 19th)
  • Memorial Day (May 30th)

Every year on Memorial Day, the White House Commission on Remembrance promotes one minute of silence at 3 p.m. local time to honor the military fallen comrades as well as to pay tribute to the sacrifices by the nation's service members and veterans. Historical military events have become nothing more than three-day weekends;lacking focus on their original purpose. This month is necessary to remind us of the sacrifices and the history we as Americans have been privileged to participate in throughout the past 230 years.

1stClassLadies would like to say THANK YOU to all of the men and woman who have served, are serving and will serve this country to protect us from harm. Everyday you put your life on the line. We are forever grateful.....
