WANTED WEDNESDAYS

"never judge a book

         by its cover"

When going for an interview the interviewee can always have the jitters.  Always wanting to make a great impression to the land the job you can be nervous about a few things.  Maybe your not sure what to wear for this interview.  Maybe your not sure what to expect and are unsure of your responses.  However one thing that doesnt cross minds to be worried about is "Will my given name affect my chances of getting this job?"

This subject was previously explored on a reality show that aired on the Bravo channel named "Pregnant In Heels".  In this particular episode an expecting couple couldnt agree on a name for their soon to come baby boy.  To help make this decision the concierge decided to set up a board meeting.   The board consisted of both men and women of high stature, for example CEO's, car dealership owners, etc.  There assignment was to view a list of names that the mom picked versus the names that the father picked.  The board wasnt aware of which names were choosen by whom and were made to give specific reasoning as to whether or not they would hire a person with that name, why or why not.  The parents name picks weren't outrageous names however with just the simplest names such as "David" one of the board members had an issue with.  Some of the board members gave the craziest ideas as to why they wouldnt hire based on a particular name for exampl, one name to one of the board memebers sounded to old!!

Seeing this debate just brought to life a reality check in the career world.  Though being a pre judgmental issue, if one does over look a name on a piece of paper versus the actual person before them, their education, and credentials, DOES YOUR NAME HAVE AN AFFECT ON YOU BEING HIRED???
