NY SEEING EYE TO EYE

As you wake up in the morning doing your normal routine, shower, pack your bag, in between turn on the news channel and flashing across the screen read “NY will no longer require its customers to have an eye exam taken when processing online and by mail.” For those whose eyes opened up wider than ever you have every right. . Times cannot be so bad that the state of NY jeopardized its population for a week before going back and implementing the drastic change in a policy that keeps us safe on the road.

We all know that NY as a whole is not the safest place to drive to begin with.  We can chuck it up to numerous reasons, starting with the large population and amount of traffic on the roads from day to day.  Bad road conditions with so many potholes you start to memorize where each is located.  Most evidently bad drivers whether it’s lack of knowledge or intentional disregard of the road and its road signs, warnings, traffic devices and importantly eye sight.  One must be able to see in order to drive!!!  With what would’ve been the new changes, the customer would actually sign a specific certification area on the application “self certifying” that you have 20/40 vision or better.  If only we could “self certify” that we’ve hit the lottery that easily.

When one goes for a typist position, you are required to show that you are capable of typing a specific amount of words per minute.    When auditioning for XFactor, one must be capable of singing, singing well, in order to make it no ifs, ands, or buts.  In order to have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich you must have both ingredients.  So why is it that when driving, NY figured let’s just issue license renewals w/o, what used to be a requirement, an eye exam.  Money!! What everyone is trying to figure out how to get more of.  Money!!!  The state figures let’s just take away the eye exam, which is the only part of the process that would actually consume time if having to visit an eye doctor for a mail in or online transaction, so the customers will have nothing left to do but pay money to process.

After careful consideration NY has decided to return to its original policy in requiring an eye exam.  *SIGHS OF RELIEF* However it does leave you with the curiosity of exactly how far will NY go for money???
